How I Choose Products

Every pick on this site has to fit your car first and earn its place second. Here is how a guide comes together.

Maker Specs and Manuals First

Ratings, sizes, warranty terms and model changes come straight from the manufacturer’s product pages and manuals, not from the box art. When a maker inflates a number (peak amps on a jump starter are the classic example), I say so and point you to the figure that actually matters.

Fitment Comes First

The right size beats the biggest number. Engine size, battery group, tire size, wiper length and vehicle fit decide whether a product works on your car, so every guide states what it fits and what it doesn’t. Where vehicles differ, the guide tells you where to check: the owner’s manual, the label under the hood or the maker’s fit guide.

What Owners Report

I read the problems owners report again and again across stores, Reddit and forums, and summarize the patterns in my own words. One angry review doesn’t sink a product; the same complaint from many owners does. I never copy reviews or show star ratings.

Research, Not Made-Up Tests

Guides are built from research. When a page says something about a product, it comes from the maker, the manual or what owners report, not from a test that never happened. You won’t find invented lab numbers or “after six months of use” stories here.

Kept Current

Every pick is checked as available before a guide is published or updated, and the date at the top of the page says when that was. Picks that get discontinued or change model are replaced. Prices aren’t shown because they change too often; the “Check price on Amazon” button always shows the current one.

How Money Fits In

I earn a commission when you buy through an Amazon link on this site. Amazon pays by product category, not by brand, so recommending one brand over another doesn’t earn me more. No brand pays to be included. Details are in the affiliate disclosure.
